Hank Green is Literally Taking Over My Mind

A preface for those of you who don't know who Hank Green is, so probably my grandfather: Hank Green is a man. He looks like this:
Please note: Hank Green is the man in this photo, not the cat.
I apparently look like him sort of. But that's besides the point (except not really). Hank Green is a man who makes a lot of videos for the Internet. The first videos he made for the Internet were the Vlogbrothers. In this series, Hank and his brother John went a year or something like that only communicating through short, approximately four minute videos. They posted these videos on the Internets for people to see. People liked these videos because Hank and John are cool, smart people. So these videos became popular. Today, Hank and John still do Vlogbrothers, talking back and forth at each other, but also do many other things. One of these things is Crash Course, a series of videos that teach things like Chemistry, Biology, US History, and World History in fun and interesting ways. They also do a lot of other cool things, but you get the idea. They make cool videos and are generally cool awesome people.
That's understating things a lot, but you get the general idea. Ew, I used that phrase twice in less than a minute. I'm terrible. Moving on.

So. I've been watching a lot more of the Green brother's videos as of late. Unlike most of my friends I seem to like Hank more than John, but lets face it, they're both cooler than you, so it doesn't matter.
I really like Hank Green. And apparently, my brain really likes Hank Green, because I'm starting to talk exactly like him. If you watch his videos (which you should), you know he has a fairly distinctive way of speaking, especially when he's excited. Without meaning to, I've begun adopting that same manner of speaking.
I first noticed it while telling a story at lunch (it was a very humorous story about one of my friends being an idiot and thinking the word "reciprocate" meant sex). The friend who I was forcing the story onto stopped me and told me that I sounded exactly like Hank.
I didn't really think much of this until the next day when I was summarizing a recent "Capitalism vs. Communism" debate in which I participated.* I realized that I was using Hank's excited manner of speaking, and even mimicking a lot of his "fancy" hand movements.
I started asking a couple of Green Bros fans about this, and they all agreed that I did in fact remind them of Hank Green on many occasions.

Now, I'm not complaining about this, not at all. Being like Hank Green is awesome. I just find it slightly... odd that I started doing this without meaning to, without even realizing it. Hank's style seemingly popped out of the screen and was absorbed into my feeble brain. That's the only explanation.

So yeah, that's my story. I don't know why I took the time to type it up since it's not incredibly interesting, but it was just a big shock for me to realize I was subconsciously mimicking a person in such a way that multiple people made a conscious note of it.
Go back to mindlessly browsing the Internet now.

*This debate included the utterance of the phrase "If only we could get a thousand Jesuses on an island." I liked this phrase.

  1. "Being like Hank Green is awesome. I just find it slightly... odd that I started doing this without meaning to, without even realizing it." I know I hate being like Barney Stinson! It sucks and I didn't even know I was like him at all!
