Peter Jackson Announces Three Hobbit Movies, Instead of Two

"Bagginses. What is a bagginses?"
Peter Jackson has announced that Middle Earth will be on the big screen longer than previously thought. The director of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy today announced that The Hobbit movie-adaptation will be three movies long, instead of the previously announced two movies, Deadline reports.
I am very interested in seeing how he manages to squeeze three movies out of this rather short book. The Lord of the Rings were three, longer books, making nicely for three movies. But if you've read The Hobbit, you will find it hard to figure out how to split it into three full length movies.
You can watch the trailer for the first Hobbit movie below entitled: An Unexpected Journey, due out December 14 of this year
