| This may look like a blue ellipse with a red line through it, but really it is. Also it is the known universe. |
Anyways, on to the actual story.
Using a new map of the universe made with data from the Fermi Space Telescope, scientists identified the 514 most powerful objects in the known universe. By "most powerful," they mean most highly energetic. But you probably knew that already. Also, how did they decide to make the list 514 things long? That seems like a really random number to chose. Sure, 514 is the year that Vitalian marched again to Constantinople, and it's the cube root of 135,796,744, but I feel like that's not what these scientists were going for.
The slightly ominous, but slightly awesome part is that they have no idea what 65 of them are. These things are giving off over 10 gigaelectronvolts (That just sounds so fake. Seriously, there has to be a better word for that.) and we have no clue to what they are.
These sources could be standard high energy objects that simply haven’t been properly identified yet, or they could be alien civilizations building huge machines to be used to take over out planet. But if they have the technology to take over a planet, shouldn't they have the technology to teraform some other planet and then we can just both exist without the need for war?
Or it could be some new type of natural object. Who knows? I'm going with aliens.
One theory is that these UES (unidentified energy sources, and yes, I just made that up) could be dwarf galaxies composed of dark matter. If that's the case, than these things could help us learn more about the mysterious dark matter. If it's not the case we'll have to go back to walking around and mumbling about how we don't know nothing 'bout dark matter.
