Thoughts on the 2013 Emmys

I have exactly two thoughts on the upcoming Emmys at this point: The Colbert Report should win best variety show, and Tatiana Maslany absolutely has to win best actress.

First up: The Colber' Repor'.
I've long held the belief that The Colbert Report is better than The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in almost every way, shape, and form. While hilarious, I find Jon Stewart incredibly annoying. I can't stand watching his show for more than a few seconds at a time, even if I am laughing for all of those seconds, because I can't stand him. His face, his mannerisms, everything is just bad. I don't like him.

The Colbert Report, on the other hand is even funnier, better written, more intelligent, and way less annoying.

And yet, for the last 10 years, The Daily Show has won best variety show at the Emmys. Probably because he's very, very liberal.

But whatever. Two things are happening that make me think Colbert might have a chance this year.
First of all, there's the Jon Oliver thing. He's just not as good as Stewart yet. And Colbert has been absolutely on fire recently. Besides getting a special hour long episode with Paul McCartney, there was that one episode that I absolutely loved every second of.

So yeah. Colbert should win. The show's awesome, and he's awesome.

Now the thing that absolutely has to happen. It is required by law, or at least should be. Tatiana Maslany must win best actress. If she does not win everything is broken.
If you don't know her I'm not surprised  She plays a pretty major role in the amazing, but little known BBC America show Orphan Black. And by major role I mean she plays seven characters.

Each of these characters has a completely different personality, acts differently, speaks differently, is different, and she plays them all.
It's incredibly impressive.

PLUS, there are several scenes where she plays one of her seven characters pretending to be another of the seven characters.
Just think about that for a minute. It's incredible, amazing, fantastic, and certainly Emmy worthy.

Every other "best actress" has won for playing one character very well. Tatiana plays seven characters fantastically well. She deserves an Emmy, and if she is not given one I will storm wherever the Emmys are held and sulk quietly.
Just give her the award. She must have it.
