'24' is Back, All Hail Jack Bauer

After four years off the air, FOX will be brining back the mega-hit 24 for a "thrilling new tent-pole event series." (What?)

This is some of the best news since Arrested Development season 4, which was, of course, the best news since the birth of Lincoln.
Confusing tent pole stuff aside, the series will have 12 episodes, strange for a show called 24. The title, as of now, is 24: Live Another Day. Which is a creative title, but seems a bit cheesy.
But whatever, I don't care. 24 is back baby!

Just like the first 8 seasons, each episode will document an hour in the life of Jack Bauer, and most likely, the President as well. Unlike the first 8 seasons, however, the full season will cover 24 hours in only 12 episodes, meaning a lot of the in-between time will be left out. This seems like it could be a bit confusing, but maybe they'll pull it off.

Homeland’s Howard Gordon will also return to oversee the project that should finally put an end to talk of a 24 movie. The series is expected to be ready to air in May, and will probably run into late summer.
While this is most likely going to be a one-off for 24, the creators didn't say no to more 24 after this. "No, but maybe," said FOX Entertainment Chairman Kevin, "These event series are going to be stand-alone events. The idea's also to give the audience something where they say, 'That is an appointment show and there's gonna be a beginning, middle and end. I don't have to be in five years. I don't have to follow it season-to-season.' But some of these, and this is true of '24,' could have franchiseability, there could be sequels."

While you wait, AV Club suggests you see how many people you can savagely beat for information.
