Here's the plan. I'll explain to everyone the general idea of the phone. Then, if you want to learn more, you can keep reading, past the general stuff, and get all the juicy nerdy details. Ok? Here it goes.
The iPhone 5 will come with iOS 6, and all of its features. Check them out here, if you wish.
The iPhone 5 has a larger screen, 4 inches when measured diagonally, as apposed to the 3.5 inch screen thats been in every iPhone before this. On the home screen you'll see a fifth row of icons (6th if you count the bottom one) because of the larger screen.
The new iPhone is also thinner, at only 7.6mm, it's the thinnest iPhone ever. It also only weighs 112 grams.
The phone is constructed entirely out of glass and aluminum. Apple says you'd expect this kind of work from a watchmaker, not from a smartphone. On the black iPhone, you'll notice the side is black as well, while on the previous models it was silver. The side of the white iPhone seems to be slightly whiter as well.
The iPhone will have 4G in the form of LTE. In the US it will be available on Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T, all with 4G where available.
The new iPhone also has a better camera. It's 8 megapixels, and can take 1080p video. While taking video, you can also take pictures. The camera itself is 25% smaller, but 40% faster. The camera also includes a panorama mode, and better technology to take pictures in low light settings.
The iPhone has Apple's new A6 processor. It is twice as fast as the A5, which was in the iPhone 4S, and also has two times the graphic performance (allows for rearview mirrors in racing games, and other awesome things like that).
The headphone jack is now on the bottom of the phone, which I think could be annoying, but maybe not.
The dock connector on the bottom, the plug used for charging, is now much smaller (80% to be exact). They call it the "Lightning" dock connector. The best feature is that it plugs in wether its upside down or not, so no more checking and turning before plugging it in. Apple will also sell an adapter between this new dock connector, and the older, larger one.
As for pricing, it remains pretty much the same. On contract, it's $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32, and $399 for 64GB.
You can now buy the iPhone 4S, last years model, for $99, and the iPhone 4 (which is two years old) is free on contract.
