Opinion: On the Creation of The Universe and Existence Itself

God did it.
That's the explanation many people give for the creation of the world, the universe, and the totality of all existence. While it's true that "God did it" is a possible answer to how the universe was made, depending on your set of beliefs, it is in no way a full answer. I don't care if you think the Earth is 5,000 years old or if you are the most secular person alive, "God Did it" is not a complete answer in any way shape or form.

Imagine you came home one day to find a civilization of six inch tall zebras in top hats prancing around your house, building miniature nuclear missiles and pondering about their creators. You would not be satisfied with the answer "Dr. Bishop did it." You would demand to know how exactly this person managed to create a civilization of self-aware miniature zebras with the mental capacity to build weapons.
This is a (slightly ridiculous) parallel to our own creation. We exist in a world, we are miniature (compared to elephants and the universe itself), we have the ability to kill millions, we are self aware, we have flaws, and we ponder about our creation.
The answer that God made us should not be satisfactory. If you believe in God, or some higher power, than this should be part of the answer. Only part. You should also seek to understand the how of the situation. Was it the big bang? Or did a former universe collapse and create our own? Or is it some theory we have not even thought of yet? These are questions we should all ponder, even if we are not scientists.
You don't have to be incredibly smart to ponder these. No, you don't have to study string theory or understand the ins and outs of all 11-dimensions. But you should be able to think beyond the fact that some deity created the world.
It's fine to believe that a deity such as God created the world, it's even fine to believe that this God lives on a planet called Kolob. But it is not okay to allow this to make you stop questioning and pondering and.
Thats my big problem with religion in general. Some people just accept that God works in mysterious ways and that you'll never understand it. This is in no way acceptable. Imagine if Newton thought "Well, this whole apple falling thing is just too complicated, no one will ever understand it."
And thousands of years ago, the best way to describe the wind was a great god blowing out birthday candles. Today, that explanation seems ridiculous. If everyone accepted that as all we needed to know, we would still believe that a God was having trouble blowing out his 15 billion birthday candles. We would probably also still be in the dark ages, and have no cure for the black plague beyond "pray to the sickness God."
Now, religion doesn't do this to everyone, and those people, the ones who both believe in their God and ponder about the science of creation, are extremely intelligent. Especially when compared to someone who's thoughts go as far as "God made everything" and "Go Bears."

My point in all of this is that it is fine to have your religious beliefs, but it is not fine to think that someone else is dumb because they are trying to find out exactly how the universe was made, or exactly how humans came to be, or why humans are seemingly more intelligent than all the other
It is in human nature to be curious, and wether you believe this ability (to be curious) comes from evolution or God, you should try to feed your curiosity and be reasonably intelligent.

(This topic reminds me of another thing I find annoying. One argument against evolution is that "If we evolved from monkeys, why are their still monkeys here?!" We did not evolve from monkeys. Both monkeys and humans evolved from a common ancestor.
I know this still won't convince my grandfather that evolution is real, and no, I don't know for a fact that evolution is real. But I believe it is, and that's how you should handle your religious believes. Accept the fact that you may be wrong. There ispossibility that God doesn't live on Kolob. But believe that you are right. Because that's what a belief is. But don't get mad at people who have other believes, and don't kill people in the name of your God. Because any God worth worshipping doesn't want you to kill people.)
