Daily Update for June 29th

1. SCOTUS Upholds Healthcare Ruling
The Supreme Court voted 5-4 on on Thursday to uphold the individual mandate, the heart of President Obama's controversial healthcare plan which requires all Americans to carry health insurance or pay a penalty. The ruling, which came as a surprise to many court watchers, clears the way for an extensive overhaul of the American healthcare system.

2. Issa Held In Contempt Of Congress
House Republicans voted 255-65 on Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt over his part in the failed Fast and Furious operation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives which allowed illegal guns to fall into the wrong hands in Mexico. The contempt vote was overshadowed by a massive Democratic walkout to protest what Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) called a "calamity."

3. Progress Made At European Summit
Holding their 19th meeting since the debt crisis began in 2009, European leaders seem to have finally conjured up a set of measures to effectively combat the region's economic woes. Headlining the new agreements is the decision to allow funds intended to bail out indebted governments directly fund struggling banks as well. International markets rose sharply on the news.
